Prof. Tong Xiaolin graduated from Changchun College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1982, he obtained his master’s degree in Wannan Medical College and his doctorate degree in 1988 in Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. From 1994 to 2005, he served as the Head of the Chinese Medicine Diabetes Department of China-Japan Friendship Hospital. In subsequent years, he has acted as the Vice President of TCM Endocrinology in Guang'anmen Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; Honorary President of Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2019, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In December 2020, he served as the first president of the Northeast Asian Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Prof. Tong has devoted himself to the clinical, scientific research and teaching of diabetes and its complications. He re-defined modern diabetes in TCM, and reclassify, stage, and differentiate syndrome of diabetes.

Prof. Tong focuses on improving the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine and provides effective prescriptions for diabetes. His achievement has been included in the local and international guidelines for TCM and Western medicine guidelines.

Prof. Tong builds a framework for the dose-effect of prescriptions and proposes strategies and specifications for safe and effective dosage of prescriptions, which greatly improves the curative effect of acute and critical illness. His effort is a foundation of establishment of the dose-response principle of prescriptions and promotion of traditional Chinese medicine to the era of "quantification".
